...currently sitting at ~6000 miles driven no problem. This is definitely one of the best sorted cars I've driven. You can tell they put an inordinate number of miles into testing the chassis and drivetrain of these cars. Really nicely balanced, and handles better than it has any right to. You sit quite low, and the controls (apart from the clutch and gearchange) are quite delicate. Oh, and the rear definitely lets go first. Ask me how I know that :S

Secondly, I bumped into this in the petrol station yesterday. Not sure exactly what it is, but it looks like a Bentley speedster of some sort.

Kinja'd!!!

I had a brief chat to the owner, and it turns out he's got two X300 5-speed manual cars, and he said he was impressed that mine was a 5-speed as well as they're rare cars.

That got me thinking 'how rare', so I looked it up on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (an unofficial website that searches the DVLA database for registered cars).

Turns out, there's only 7 5-speed 4.0l XJ40s left on the road in the UK.

Sad that there's so few, but glad that one of them's mine :)

The price of exclusivity is surprisingly reasonable!

6k miles already? Haven't you only had it about a month? Is it yet at the point where you've spent more on petrol than the car?

Looks great. I always get turned off the X350 XJRs due to the lack of manual. I bet an XJ40 would rock.

I've had it nearly 3, and it's approaching 6k at the moment. Probably closer to 5 than 6 in all honesty, but I reckon I'll hit it by the end of the month.

I've done a lot of driving in the old girl. Down to Hailsham to visit my girlfriend 3 times a week, across to Redhill for work, up to North London a couple of times to visit uni mates

Soon it'll be more as we've got a trip planned to visit Oxford, Bath, Cornwall and Portsmouth on the way back (and then perhaps down to the Loire Valley if funds permit) :)

So far, the only issue is the clutch slave cylinder that blew a seal. Drove home with no clutch, replaced it with a part from the old Jag and off we went again :)

It's been great so far :) the engine's nice and meaty, but I can't help feel that the chassis could cope with a gob more power (and it'd be nice embarrassing Subaru WRXs in my old man's car).

The current end-game is to transplant the supercharged AJ16 from an X300 XJR and run a standalone ECU so it'll play nice with the manual 'box.

That'd net 318bhp and 342lb-ft before any benefits from opening the exhaust a little...

That sounds like a more than healthy amount of fun.
